What’s wrong with those fat legs of mine?

That’s something I asked myself a lot as a young girl. Why are my legs so different from my girlfriends? Am I not exercising enough? Am I eating too much? As a teenager you often don’t want to stand out, you prefer to be normal, ‘just like the rest’. There’s enough to feel insecure about at that time in your life! But alas, my legs (hips, knees and ankles) were different from my girlfriends.

And even my doctor couldn’t tell me what was wrong. “Nothing to worry about,” he would say. “Just eat less salt and put your legs up at night.” This of course did not help my complaints at all. And neither do more sports or even less food! Nothing seemed to make a difference to my fat legs. And even though I wish I still had those legs, I hated it then. It made me very self-conscious and insecure.

It’s essential to know what’s going on with your body

More than twenty years later after the birth of my two sons, my complaints got worse and worse. And only then did I finally meet someone who said, “I think you have lipedema.” I had never heard of lipedema! But after a short search on the internet, all the puzzle pieces fell into place. All my complaints were neatly arranged in a list of ‘most recognizable symptoms.’ For the first time in my life I knew what was wrong with my legs; I have lipedema!

I myself have been sent from pillar to post for over twenty years. This made me feel misunderstood, insecure and frustrated. So I know from my own experience how important it is to get clarity about what is going on with your body. That’s why I created this informative magazine. So that you don’t have to live in uncertainty for decades, like me, about what’s going on with your body. Even if the outcome is not what you hoped for, this gives you a lot of peace of mind. And you can specifically look for a treatment plan.

Understanding Lipedema to ensure accurate diagnosis

Due to the lack of awareness among healthcare professionals about Lipedema, many women end up being misdiagnosed. This brochure can help you!

To help prevent these common misdiagnoses, I’ve created a new brochure that provides a clear description of the condition and its symptoms. This will equip you with the exact terms and information needed to accurately describe your situation to your doctor. If necessary, bring the brochure with you to your appointment to ensure you can clearly communicate your concerns and symptoms!
